Still life fruit series - lemons

Mar. 17th, 2009 | 12:30 am
mood: sour

London and Melbourne are competing to see who can stress me to breaking point first.
I wish physical pain on all real estate agents. Worldwide.

Hence the lemons... I'm feeling a little sour.

They do very little against the heat. 4 days in a row over 40 degrees centigrade shouldn't be allowed...

Plums...

Jan. 22nd, 2009 | 11:24 am

Summer plums from our backyard. Every year they fruit and all seem to ripen and be devoured by bats, possums and birds (and me!) and are gone within the space of a week.

I had planned to take a Polaroid of them when they had ripened to their gorgeous yellow/red, but alas they were eaten too quickly and a Melbourne storm blew them all to the ground in one night. *sigh*

Stop a Stranger shortlist, #1

Dec. 8th, 2008 | 01:13 pm

The dog in the handbag was too cute not to photograph and it make the portrait more interesting. I like the lighting and out-of-focus street in the background, it's very Melbourne.

Stop a Stranger

Dec. 6th, 2008 | 10:47 pm
mood: & inspired & inspired

Task 'S' for the Alphabet Project, which is flying towards the finish line faster than I could have imagined. This task has been the most challenging but definately the most rewarding, and has really re-inspired me to get out there and SHOOT - even if it's not fashion or not paid work. It's reminded me that photography is what I love, and it's a good reminder.

The brief was to 'stop a stranger' and ask them to shoot their portrait. It is at first terrifying (I did chicken out a couple of times!) but so rewarding when you get a good response. People generally were open to taking their portrait and weren't concerned with what it was for greatly. We went down Brunswick Street in Fitzroy, which has such an eclectic mix of people, all fairly receptive to the idea. Melbourne rocks.

So here was my final submission, my first stranger, Pat. He was working in the cafe we had breakfast at and had the best hair, so I had to ask him for his portrait.

I will post some of the shots that didn't make the final cut over the next week.

Spring harvest

Dec. 6th, 2008 | 06:14 pm

I was able to do my second chamomile harvest (for tea!) and collect snow peas from our struggling vines last weekend. They were both Polaroid worthy. Hooray for Spring!

The meaning of my name and my current default LJ icon. I love him so much I thought he should be acknowledged at full size.
He was part of a Polaroid tryptic I took for Task 'O' for the Alphabet Project - 'Objective.' Click here to view the tryptic.

Transcript of MSN conversation regarding airline travel in Australia over Christmas

Nov. 3rd, 2008 | 02:13 pm
mood: random and conflicted

thelittlestbear: hi lovely - you got a sec?

Friend: surely do

Friend: anything for you

thelittlestbear: am looking at flying to perth with Tiger (airline) over xmas but i'm a bit scared of them, wanted your opinion

thelittlestbear: i know you guys flew them over here last time

thelittlestbear: were they ok? Were the planes old and crappy or were they fairly modern?

Friend: yeah it's fine. the planes were okay. the landing carrier is like a detention centre

thelittlestbear: I'm flying on Xmas eve though - that's the whole thing - I'm scared that the plane will be sh*t (Tiger) and they won't have a replacement and i won't make it to perth in time for Xmas. It's a b-grade 80's christmas movie waiting to happen. girl catches low grade airline to be with family, plane falls apart, disaster ensues... sad girl can't get to blind mother and elderly grandmother for Xmas day... it's a distaster waiting to happen, so i'm trying to calculate which airline has the smallest risk of not getting me there

Friend: haha about the b grade

Friend: you will probably end up on a bus with john candy. singing and playing the accordian

thelittlestbear: that would be a plus...

The Alphabet Project - Task G

Jun. 22nd, 2008 | 02:07 pm

For those of you who don't know I'm taking part in the International photography project, The Alphabet Project. It involves 26 photographers from around the world, each one with a first name starting with a different letter of the alphabet. Each fortnight, one of the photographers (in alphabetical order) sets a task for everyone, also starting with that letter.

We are currently undertaking Task G - "Graffiti." Melbourne has some of the best street art in the world so this was a tough decision, I had it down to 3 shots that I wanted to submit for different reasons. In the end I went for something different;

Still Life

Sep. 7th, 2007 | 12:41 pm
mood: inspired

In an effort to diversify my work I've started shooting a couple of still life series'. The first is of vintage vases - so far I only have the pair below, but I'm going to aim to add another pair to this collection after my next op shopping expedition.

I've shot them overexposed purposefully as it's a direction that a lot of fashion photographers are using in magazine editorials at the moment, however I thought I'd give it a shot in still life as an experiment. The sizing is uneven but I kind of like this too. It's a work in progress.

Newest shots and website update!

Jun. 3rd, 2007 | 05:31 pm
location: No place like home
music: Zero 7

Last week's shoot went really well, I find that I'm happier with each shoot that I do so hopefully that pattern continues. It's really affirming to be finding a style the more I shoot, and it's given me more confidence to go out and start seeking work with magazines.

The updated site will be live later tonight, with a good few shots from last week's fashion/editorial shoot and a couple of new shots from recent work with my fabulous makeup artist, Margo.

A couple of shots that didn't make the website, but that I still love:

If I have the chance I'll be posting more shots that didn't quite make the cut for my website from this shoot over the next few weeks.

In other news I made spelt flour choc chip macadamia nut cookies this afternoon, and they rock.

That is all...

mood: tired but content

1920s makeup shoot - we took the model out to the gorgeous wire frame elevator shafts in my building. Has a very film-still feel because of the costume and I love the shadows and the criss-crossed frames in the background.

My studio is in the coolest building ever. I can't wait to do a 'proper' fashion editorial shoot there.

Fridge meme

May. 1st, 2007 | 04:56 pm
mood: dorky dorky

So I've had this idea for awhile where I'd love to start a meme where people post a photo of their fridge and explain some of the items stuck on it. A fridge always says so much about a house and it's inhabitants - I'd love to take a little voyeristic peek into people's homes to see this aspect of their lives.

The only problem is, I have 5 people on my flist so the chances of this taking off are very slim. But in vain hope I post a photo of my fridge and hope that others will do the same. At the very least you might all like to see what's on my fridge. Or not, whatever...

Some of the items on my fridge are... )

What's on your fridge???
