Still life fruit series - lemons
Mar. 17th, 2009 | 12:30 am
mood: sour

London and Melbourne are competing to see who can stress me to breaking point first.
I wish physical pain on all real estate agents. Worldwide.
Hence the lemons... I'm feeling a little sour.

They do very little against the heat. 4 days in a row over 40 degrees centigrade shouldn't be allowed...

Plums...
Jan. 22nd, 2009 | 11:24 am
Summer plums from our backyard. Every year they fruit and all seem to ripen and be devoured by bats, possums and birds (and me!) and are gone within the space of a week.

I had planned to take a Polaroid of them when they had ripened to their gorgeous yellow/red, but alas they were eaten too quickly and a Melbourne storm blew them all to the ground in one night. *sigh*

Stop a Stranger shortlist, #1

The dog in the handbag was too cute not to photograph and it make the portrait more interesting. I like the lighting and out-of-focus street in the background, it's very Melbourne.

Stop a Stranger

& inspired
Task 'S' for the Alphabet Project, which is flying towards the finish line faster than I could have imagined. This task has been the most challenging but definately the most rewarding, and has really re-inspired me to get out there and SHOOT - even if it's not fashion or not paid work. It's reminded me that photography is what I love, and it's a good reminder.
The brief was to 'stop a stranger' and ask them to shoot their portrait. It is at first terrifying (I did chicken out a couple of times!) but so rewarding when you get a good response. People generally were open to taking their portrait and weren't concerned with what it was for greatly. We went down Brunswick Street in Fitzroy, which has such an eclectic mix of people, all fairly receptive to the idea. Melbourne rocks.
So here was my final submission, my first stranger, Pat. He was working in the cafe we had breakfast at and had the best hair, so I had to ask him for his portrait.

I will post some of the shots that didn't make the final cut over the next week.

Spring harvest
Dec. 6th, 2008 | 06:14 pm
I was able to do my second chamomile harvest (for tea!) and collect snow peas from our struggling vines last weekend. They were both Polaroid worthy. Hooray for Spring!
